17 of 26. BAPTISMAL FONT --The artistic design of a font often reflects the paschal mystery. The early fathers described the font in terms of “womb” and “tomb”. Fonts were often rectangular like a tomb’’ or circular like a ‘womb. Theodore of Mopsuestia writes "the one baptized settles in the water as in a kind of womb; like a seed showing no sign of an immortal nature; but once baptized and endowed with the divine grace of the Spirit, his nature, is reshaped completely. You will notice that our font is round and if you look carefully will see the image of fish; a secret sign used by the early persecuted Chistians to designate themselves as believers in Jesus. The initial letters of the Greek words for Jesus Christ, God’s Son, Savior, spell the Greek word for fish.
